RambleRamble is located southwest of Montego Bay in western Jamaica. As we filed down the stairs from the plane and walked across the tarmack, two things struck me: the brightness of the sun and the beauty of the Carribean Sea just at the other edge of the runway. After we made our way through the customs maze, we met Frankella Brandon, our missionary in Ramble. Frankella and several prominent church members drove us from the airport. The ride from the airport was interesting, with lots of twisting and turning as the road made its way up into the hill country from the coast. The roads were narrow, and drivers tended to stay in the middle unless passing oncoming traffic. It took some time to get used to driving on the left, believe me. |

Ramble, itself, is more of a rumor of a town than what we would consider a town in the Midwest. The "downtown" consists of the police station and a combination grocery store/hardware store/gas station. The rest of the town is strung out along the B8 highway. Besides the Mount Ward Church, there is an elementary school, a secondary school, and Anglican church, a set of small stores, some houses, and large pastures for cattle. At some point along the road, Ramble changes into Chichester, though the boundary is difficult to pinpoint. |
