Dr. Marc J. O'Reilly is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the
International Studies Committee at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. He is Past
Co-President of the International Studies Association (ISA)-Midwest. He is originally
from Montreal, Canada. He holds a B.A. from McGill University, an M.A. from Ohio University,
and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. He specializes in international relations,
comparative politics, and American, Canadian, and Middle Eastern foreign policies.
Dr. O'Reilly teaches Political Science courses on Global Politics, The
European Union, Canada, Human Rights, the United Nations, U.S. Foreign
Policy, and Politics of the Middle East. He co-teaches the Capstone course
with Professors Tom Newcomb and John Bing. He also teaches the
Capstone seminar in International Studies and Honors courses on Quebec/French
Canada, Empires, and the CIA Declassified. Every April, he takes his POL 361/362
class to the Model UN Conference of the Far West in San Francisco, CA. In May
2012, he led a group of Heidelberg students on a tour of Greece and Turkey.
In 2010, Dr. O'Reilly received Heidelberg’s Distinguished Scholarship/Research Award.
His research interests include the Middle East, U.S. and Canadian foreign policy,
and empires.
Dr. O'Reilly is the author of Unexceptional: America's
Empire in the Persian Gulf, 1941-2007 (Lexington Books, 2008), which can

amazon.com. He is co-editor of Handbook of Canadian Foreign Policy
(Lexington Books, 2006) with Patrick James and Nelson Michaud.
Dr. O'Reilly has published articles in International Studies Perspectives, The Journal of
Commonwealth & Comparative Politics, The Middle East Journal, Middle East
Policy, and The American Review of Canadian Studies (ARCS). He has published reviews in
International Studies Review, International Politics, Nationalities Papers, and
ARCS.
