Dr. Marc J. O'Reilly is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at
Heidelberg University. He is originally from Montreal, Canada, and earned his
PhD at the
University of Connecticut. He specializes in international relations, comparative
politics, and American, Canadian, and Middle Eastern foreign policies.
Dr. O'Reilly teaches courses on Global Politics, The European Union, Human
Rights, International Organizations, U.S. Foreign Policy,
Quebec/French Canada, Canadian Politics, International Studies, Politics of the Middle East, and Empires. Every April, he takes his
POL 360 class to the Model UN Conference of the Far West in San Francisco,
CA. In March 2009, he will lead a group of students on a tour of Italy.
Dr. O'Reilly's research interests include U.S. foreign policy vis-a-vis
the Middle East since World War II, empires, and Canadian foreign policy
since 1945.
Dr. O'Reilly is the author of Unexceptional: America's
Empire in the Persian Gulf, 1941-2007 (Lexington Books, 2008), which can be purchased on-line at lexingtonbooks.com, barnesandnoble.com, or amazon.com.
Dr. O'Reilly has co-edited Handbook of Canadian Foreign Policy (Lexington Books, 2006), with Patrick James and Nelson Michaud. He has
published articles in International Studies Perspectives, The Journal of Commonwealth & Comparative
Politics, The Middle East Journal, Middle East Policy, and the
American Review of Canadian Studies.
In addition to his professorial duties, Dr. O'Reilly serves as Heidelberg
University's Director of International & Multicultural Academic Programs. |
