Dr. Marc J. O'Reilly is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at
Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, and Chair of the International Studies Committee. He is originally from Montreal, Canada, and earned his
Ph.D. at the
University of Connecticut. He specializes in international relations, comparative
politics, and American, Canadian, and Middle Eastern foreign policies.
Dr. O'Reilly teaches Political Science courses on Global Politics, The European Union, Human
Rights, International Organizations, U.S. Foreign Policy,
Canadian Politics, and Politics of the Middle East. He teaches the capstone seminar in International Studies and Honors courses on Quebec/French Canada and Empires. He also teaches a first-year experience course on political satire. Every April, he takes his
POL 360 class to the Model UN Conference of the Far West in San Francisco,
CA. In March 2009, he led a group of Heidelberg students on a tour of France (Nice), Monaco, Italy (Cinque Terre, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Lake Como, Milan, and Rome), and Vatican City. He has also led Heidelberg groups to Canada and Greece and co-taught a Heidelberg summer course at Oxford University in England. In June 2009, he participated in a CIEE international faculty development seminar in Turkey.
Dr. O'Reilly's research interests include U.S. foreign policy vis-a-vis
the Middle East since World War II, empires, and Canadian foreign policy
since 1945.
Dr. O'Reilly is the author of Unexceptional: America's
Empire in the Persian Gulf, 1941-2007 (Lexington Books, 2008), which can be purchased on-line at lexingtonbooks.com, barnesandnoble.com, or amazon.com.
Dr. O'Reilly is co-editor of Handbook of Canadian Foreign Policy (Lexington Books, 2006) with Patrick James and Nelson Michaud. He has
published articles in International Studies Perspectives, The Journal of Commonwealth & Comparative
Politics, The Middle East Journal, Middle East Policy, and The
American Review of Canadian Studies.
In addition to his professorial duties, Dr. O'Reilly serves as Heidelberg
University's Director of International & Multicultural Academic Programs. |
